✦ NEW ARRIVAL — ONE OF ONE

Donald Stannard | Vintage Imperial Dragon & Malachite Shrine Necklace — Signed

A piece of breathtaking rarity and cultural magnificence. This extraordinary vintage necklace by Donald Stannard is among the most exceptional examples of late 20th-century orientalist jewellery design — signed, double-sided, and utterly one of a kind.

PROVENANCE & ERA

Circa 1970s–1980s — the golden era of Western orientalist accessories, when master designers drew deeply from Eastern iconography to create pieces of genuine cultural and artistic significance. Donald Stannard's work from this period is exceptionally scarce, with signed examples commanding serious collector attention. This piece bears his name stamp — the mark of authenticity that transforms a beautiful object into a documented collector's piece.

THE PIECE

Alternating lustrous white baroque pearls and deep forest green malachite beads with gold-tone barrel spacers form the necklace strand — a masterclass in material contrast. At the centre, a substantial gold-tone medallion, hand-engraved on both sides with an imperial dragon and what appears to be Eastern script or characters — the double-sided craftsmanship a testament to Stannard's uncompromising standards. Suspended from the medallion, three vivid malachite cabochons set in individual gold-tone arched shrine frames — each one reminiscent of a reliquary, deeply evocative of Eastern sacred art.

Eastern iconography and malachite jewellery are experiencing a significant renaissance in the luxury collector market — driven by growing collector bases across Asia, the US, and Europe. This piece predates the trend entirely. It is not inspired by the moment. The moment is catching up to it.

This is a one-of-one piece. Once she's gone, she's gone.
